what is strange to me is that i have always considered f1 to be a team sport... much like cycling where members of a team do all they can to a) secure a team victory and b) secure the overall victory for one of their team members.

It never even occurred to me that anyone might be even slightly disappointed by such an act. It was part of the game. Oh well, it demonstrates that there is always far more to learn.
