Very good in all aspects except this line including the phrase "retributive justice".

"The meting out of retributive justice is, indeed, insufficient, which is why mercy is important, for example."

As you know, I am for the death penalty. Some would see that as retributive. I see it as only consequential and resolute. I also see the place in considering circumstance and the mercy in each situation. When we focus our decision to be just on; how much we want this person (the criminal) to suffer, we lose sight on the resolute and constructive. When we focus on resolute and constructive justice we may end up with the same or similar decision in the court. The criminal will likely suffer but it is not a vengeful court causing the suffering it is only the necessary resolute course of action brought about by the criminal's behavior. The onus for any suffering (or remorseful rehabilitation) is placed back on the criminal who has driven the whole scenario by his behavior. The responsibility for resolving and creating healthy living conditions for the citizenry is the constructive task of the justice system....the new paradygm.
