Charles, RE: GV, why would they be paying social security if they're employed illegally and are getting paid under the table?

Not all illegal immigrants get paid under the table. In fact, the majority don't.

According to studies by the Urban Institute and the Cato Institute (yes, I know that they're biased), immigrants contribute about $20 billion more to our government than they take out. The vast majority of their contributions is in the form of Social Security and Medicare payments.

Re:"why would they be paying social security if they're employed illegally and are getting paid under the table?"

Many illegal immigrants have false documents and use these for employment. FICA gets deducted from the payroll check.

Other ways that illegal immigrants pay into the system:

1 Sales Tax
2 Rent indirectly pays real property tax
3 In CA, Personal property tax built into vehicle registration fee

Because of their illegal status and fear of authorities, illegals do not seek benefits from the government such as welfare and routine health care. An exception is school for the kids. But many of the children are born in the USA and are citizens, entitled to the full benefits legal residency.
