I know it's hard for you to grasp big numbers, but try to imagine this: It's the REST OF THE ECONOMY that loses jobs because of the steel tariffs (people and industries that USE steel: autos, appliances, construction, ports which previously handled the imports, etc.)

They do this because we are in a global economy... and their costs are now higher. Autos have a couple of hundred dollars of steel in them, rase the price of the steel and they must either cut their profit margins or lose sales to foreign competitors. Large skyscrapers may cost *millions* more.

Every economic analysis you'd care to look at will confirm this (except for maybe one from the steel workers union....:)
