Jim,

I'm sorry I was involved in starting this whole illegal alien debate. When you implied that they were some kind of terrorist threat, I just thought it was stupid.

But outside of terrorism, a few points:

-As an issue, it's not really a big deal, there must be 100 issues that are more important in this country. Illegals add to the economy, and they cost the economy. Who knows if it's a net positive or negative, not you or me or anyone on this thread. Probably not anyone in the government, that's why the lax enforcement.

-You seem incensed about the issue, beyond it's importance. Why do you resent these folks so much?

-Outside of those that are native Americans, we are all decendants of immigrants. Some legal, some illegal. At some point in time, the folks that were already here were gracious enough to give our ancestor a chance. As a "Mick" (absolutely hated during a certain period, much more than Mexicans now), how can you deny the same generosity to those that followed your family?

-Immigration made this country, and continues to make this country what it is today. Fresh ideas, hard workers. It's our lifeblood.

-It's hard for me to get pissed at folks that leave their family, city and country, at great risk, to come up here and mow lawns for $7 an hour, with no benefits, so they can send a few bucks to their families. These are not evil people, these are folks struggling to survive, and to make a slightly better life. If they get sick and need to go to the emergency room, I am more than happy to provide a few of my tax dollars to pay for their care.

Drop it Jim, it sounds like "I got mine, f--k everybody else".

John
