Much of one's attitude about such things is a function of confidence and trust. People who have a lot of both tend to try for the brass ring. People who don't, don't. They find security in rules and processes whether they make sense or not.

People who grew up communists like that system too. It's fair. It treats everyone the same, lousy. You have to have some optimism to want to move to capitalism.
