"What I meant was that no matter how good the tech is, if it can't be protected, then the company will never make any money. It will make a good charitable contribution, but if the ease of entry into their market space has no obstacle, then they may end up perfecting a great tech which some one else will just take."

The same way Intel, AMD, Broadcom, Apple, Nvidia, HP, and a hundred other companies protect their technology: a combination of patents, copyrights, trade secrets, and the fact that their technology is reified in their products.

Were you expecting some kind of magic potion?

"But you may have intended this as pure research, if you did then I appologize."

I gave the company name, which you can research with Google. I said I'm an early investor...very few investors fund "pure research."

As far as your not being a science or tech guy, I don't understand what people mean by this. High school kids can learn plenty of science, so you should be able to as well. If you are not interested in learning science or technology, you probably shouldn't be investing in Intel.
