If this were the only case such a "solution" were applied, it might make sense. But it wouldn't be. The next time a tariff came up, the workers from the industry would be picketing the WH and writing letters demanding THEIR pensions for life. Fairly soon, the nation would consist of a small number of workers paying huge taxes to support a bunch of bums sitting on their butts collecting $100K a year.

I'll take the costs of the tariff, thank you. This is just another sneaky road to socialism.
