Yes I thought that was contributing to your malaise.

And what a malaise. Pure conjecture. At least, you read it in a magazine. The question was asking for proof. DO you even know what proof is? Are 5 letter words a problem for you? DO you really think saying "I read it in a magazine" is proof? Why would you even bother with such a silly response? Too many shrooms.

>>that measured against the multi-billion dollar ongoing hit to the economy that the tariffs would impose each year

You are a total lunatic.

Here is the scenario, all off the top of my head so I doubt the numbers match up to reality, but they are only meant to illustrate the depths of cruelty your schoolmasters exhibited when they graduated you onto society:

We spend 10 trillion a year on steel. 50/50 import and domestic. We impose a tariff, that increases the price of steel, so we spend 11 trillion a year, 80/30 favor towards domestic. Net result is what, we spend 100 billion more a year, but how much more money is staying here, rather than leaving the country?

You are such a doofus, you will believe anything anyone says to you, as long as they meet your credential requirements. I bet you were a stock brokers dream come true.
