AA, nice study. One thing I might add is that we have to put this drop in the context of where the market is right now. I looked at last September 17-21 last night, and there was little relief from the AM gaps down. March 2001 was the same. Gaps down at the end of a big downtrend are probably a good intra-day long trade, but will probably be a loser on a 2-day swing trade, IMO.

Yes, a very good chance

As I pointed out last night, my friend phoenix observed that so far this year whenever the NDX opened below its lower BB we had a rally day 80% of the times it has happened.

Maybe the most interesting thing about that chart, Allan, is that every single one of those gaps down closed HIGHER than the gap down open.

Mebbe we repeat the Sept 17-21 days here, but clearly the odds say we have a bounce into the gap today.

Nice work AA,

The only comment I have, these big "gap down" days you listed were all prior to the "big loss of confidence" period we are going through now.. Will it get bought today? I don't know.. I know I won't consider it unless a JNPR or CSCO, etc.. get halved today from yesterday.. Then no guarantees.

Besides, I keep hearing the "pump" of media wanting the big gap down to turn it around.. Like wanting the people to buy this..

Will it be different this time? and it just goes clunk..

I don't know.. But good luck all.

c

Do you have the data where it closed for the day handy...if not no big deal, just trying to determine the odds of todays close based on those #'s
