Maybe, maybe not. It's a relatively inexpensive maneuver to goose the futures indexes in the short term. Something less that $50 Million strategically place by the PPT can make some of the other program traders jump to the tune. Briefly giving a self-fulfilling prophesy its head.

The real question is how many 401(k) holders are going to reflect on the events of the week over the weekend and say that the manipulation is just too obvious. I'm listening to NPR's All Things Considered. The NPR crew is showing signs of disgust. Talking about Xerox as the "disaster of the day, and there does seem to be one every day...."

They're really dissecting the "bubble" now. America is waking up to reality.
