*OT* Let's all hope Brazil win Sunday, and in a pretty way....I can't take any more of these "we're afraid we are going to lose 1-0 scores"..

Having said, if Germany wins, sure would be cool to say U.S. outplayed, and somewhat controversially lost (bad call on handball?) to the eventual champs.

U.S. is no longer the sleeping giant in soccer anymore...elite status is inevitable (maybe even by 2006, although likely 2010/2014). There is now just too much organization, participation and money being spent on the sport here. There is a dynamite cadre of 16/17 year olds...as good as anyone in world...who get to start immediately in the MLS (American league)...something they wouldn't get to do in Europe. (There is less pressure for clubs to win here, so they can start 16/17 years old). The American league is a great primer for them to jump to Europe at age 20 or so, and literally be ahead of some of their Euro player rivals (or on par).

Longer-term, America's ascension not good for Canada's World Cup chances (unless the number of berths is raised). Looks like U.S. and Mexico have a lock on 2 of the 3 spots for next few Cups...Canada will have to battle Jamaica, Honduras, Costa Rica, etc. for last spot. Won't be easy.
