I wonder if these were the same kind of "company loans" that ADM had, where members of the elite circle were granted access to millions of dollars of no-interest money. the loans were kept off the books and tucked away in some forgotten file room.

Besides enriching these corrupt executives, the loans had another purpose. When a member of the circle stopped playing ball, these loans were used to coerce them back into line or to destroy them in court if they ended up at the wrong table.
