It is a lot easier to dead-end a listed/exchange account.
The other possiblity is that it was done by an investment bank as a hedge - if so then the client (individual or corporation) could be known within minutes/hours of the FBI requesting information, so #1 is more likely - the numbered account and dummy corporation.
