Manugistics' quarterly net loss widens, (FirstCall ests=-$27c)

ROCKVILLE, Md., June 27 (Reuters) - Software company
Manugistics Group Inc. <MANU.O> on Thursday posted a wider
fiscal first-quarter loss as sales slowed from a year ago, and
said it would cut 12 percent of its workers and contractors.
The Rockville, Maryland-based seller of software that lets
manufacturers share purchasing and inventory data with
suppliers over the Internet had a net loss of $27.1 million, or
39 cents per share, compared with a net loss of $23.4 million,
or 35 cents, a year earlier.
Revenues slipped 19 percent to $74.6 million from $92.4
million for the period ended May 31.
Excluding charges, the company had a quarterly loss of
$18.4 million, or 27 cents per diluted share. A year ago, it
posted a profit of $2.2 million, or 3 cents, before charges.
Manugistics warned earlier this month it would post a loss,
excluding charges, in the quarter. Analysts cut their
estimates, with an average forecast of a loss of 27 cents per
share on revenues of $71.31 million, according to Wall Street
tracking firm Thomson First Call.
