I guess I don't feel like its an endorsement of religion. For some reason people within our public institutions seem to have this pervasive guilt complex about how well we as a nation live. As a result of their own personal feelings of guilt they seem intent on breaking almost all tradition. The problem is they are using our Children as test subjects for their own personal feelings of success guilt. My view of the "spirit" of the Pledge of Allegiance is that it is a Pledge of Unity and fairness - not religion. While I believe fiercely in civil disobedience I also believe in National Unity when the day is done. That said I think our public learning institutions have found a way to divide whether by race, religion, sex, education etc. far more than they have found ways to unite.
