Concur on the cause of the fall in trust prices today, and might add that they usually grind up towards the next ex- dividend day. Also in light of the events in the broad market I am reassured that dividends can't be faked.
ERF goes ex-dividend on a different schedule, and the larger fall in SHN is because they pay quarterly.

My impression has been that prices fall by more than the payout on the day they go ex-dividend. The next day is sort of neutral, and then they start the grind higher. This tells me that the ex-dividend day is the day to put in new money or more likely re-invest distributions, which is all I do. But if I know this, why doesn't everyone, thus negating the supposition?
