I have concluded that Joe and Jane America do not stand a chance in a market where our most exalted corporate officials lack morals,
ethics and honesty. My conclusion is that until corporate morality is restored, the market is no place for honest people.

A short and to the point statement that could be sent to all legislators, local, state and federal. Might even make a good editorial to your local fish wrap.

THE MARKET IS NO PLACE FOR HONEST PEOPLE

chalu2,

I absolutely agree with you. The swamp that the stock market has become is a national disgrace. Bush has not lifted a single finger to do anything to correct this situation.

If anything, he's part of the problem, trying hard behind the scenes to make sure his criminal circle of bribers don't get arrested and convicted as they would be under a just system.

"rather than providing any information indicating that the average American (not people who converse at a high level on Silicon Investor) have the investing savvy to navigate the securities markets, as they presently "function.""

This sort of proves my assumption that YOU think they cannot. Liberals generally feel they are superior to the conservatives and to the democrat populace they claim to be helping. Not sure what other conclusions can be drawn from your post that appears to support the idea that if the avearage American should not be given a CHOICE to invest a PORTION of his/her SS in the private sector. Arrogant and condescending imo.

"better evidence than I could ever muster that people do not tend to address complex financial issues with a rational and cool head"

This shows my assumption about you was correct also. You better protect them. They are too dumb, right?

"I have concluded that Joe and Jane America do not stand a chance in a market where our most exalted corporate officials lack morals, ethics and honesty. My conclusion is that until corporate morality is restored, the market is no place for honest people"

That is awefully nice of you to make that decision for people. 30 years down the road we will see if the gov't run SS fund has outperformed the private sector. I agree btw that the market is and can be dangerous. I do not agree that people should not be able to make that choice themselves. The pompous liberals believe they are uniquley qualified to run everybody's lives, and that is far more troubling to me than the riskiness of the stock market. As I said in an earlier post, I fear government dishonesty and incompetence more than private business dishonesty and incompetence. I think the people and private business are what made our country great. It appears to me that you feel otherwise.

Since you are so concerned with morality issues in America, I am sure that you are glad that Clinton is gone, right? Didn't set a very good example. Bald face lying, cheating on his wife, using an infatuated young intern for his sexual jollies, questionable financial dealings in Whitewater, etc, etc, etc.
