A few years back the most notorious serial killer in Chicago was flambed after about a decade of fruitless appeals.

A local DJ incited his listeners (mostly young and male) to counter the candlelight vigil outside the prison where the execution took place with something resembling a tailgate party, with the increasingly drunk revelers singing Na-na-na-na, hey hey hey, Good Bye! (the mid 70's pop song).

The TV coverage of that event did not make me proud of our country.
