Actually, GE doesn't look so bad compared to bonds. A 10y T bill gives 4.7%, giving a PE of 21. However, adjusting for 1.5% inflation gives a real return of 3.2% and a PE of 31. Given that both corporate profits and inflation are likely to increase when the economy recovers I think that GE is the better deal.
