Not likely, considering that current opinion polls show that among Palestinians, the second most popular political figure after Arafat is the leader of Hamas.

New leadership for the Palestinians won't necessarily mean better leadership. And the more Bush hints that Arafat needs to be replaced, the more the Palestinians will cling to him. Bush can virtually guarantee Arafat's victory in the January elections by continuing to call for his replacement.
