you have to admit, this is pretty funny in the context of the phrase being added in 1954.

Attorney General John Ashcroft is among those criticizing Wednesday's ruling.

He said the ruling declaring the pledge unconstitutional is "directly contrary to two centuries of American tradition."

President Dwight D. Eisenhower declared that millions of American schoolchildren would now be proclaiming their dedication to "the Almighty."

Yes, President Eisenhower was right, millions of school children have proclaimed their dedication to "the Almighty." Just as millions have not. The words were added to insure that those wishing to express their faith were also represented imo. The Pledge of Allegiance covers a lot of ground. The idiots in SF just fenced the field.
