It could even be done cheaper if you go to old 200Mhz boxes which can stand the guff as routers and mail servers. It all depends on what your needs are. And NO, the ISP does NOT provide, nor SHOULD be expected to provide, security! That is definitely your job! How can he filter crap for 10,000 different customers? Computer security is the job of people whose computers need to be secure, and they will spend as much money as they seem to need to. I lost 25,000 to a virus once! Now how expensive is antivirus software and the updates given that? ISP's are low margin retail, why should they supply anti-virus scanning of your files? How can they scan your computer? Why should they? It ain't worth their time, nor is it any guarantee. If you have a business and want to make money on net contact or email, then spend the money and pay computer professionals for security. If you buy some box off a shelf with a fancy come on, then you deserve the false sense of security you get. If you buy Dr. Solomon's, or Symantec, or depend on (shudder), Microsoft Anti-Virus then you deserve the inevitable computer crash. There is to my knowledge only one that works and it isn't the above three. Big subject. Most homes and businesses are vulnerable. Most email is insecure. A LOT of Word Doc files are infected! OFTEN people's word doc files are uploaded to codebreakers.org! People hide their heads in the sand. Maybe 5% of business have good computer security. The rest are Humpty Dumpty, teetering on a fence. The king's horsemen are drunk. Hey! don't be Humpty or Dumpty. Don't depend on the King's horsemen. Use mail encryption. It won't hurt you. Idi Amin won't arrest you. Use anti-virus software. One crash is worth more than sixy bucks. Use another disk for mirroring. Use tape backup on critical business files. Use CD backup. Verify the CD's. Hell it is a good thing to use a UPS too, fewer than 20% of businesses have that. No extra charge for the info. EC<:-}
