Virtually everything I know about McCarthy is tainted because of the source. I was a kid when he was holding his hearings and have no other concept to go on.

The man has been demonized since to the point that any reasonable evaluation of McCarty today is near impossible.

McCarthy "overzealous"? That's a joke.

He was simply a fascist demagogue, who had "secret evidence in his hand", condemning people of all kinds without regard to merit. He did this purely for political gain, regardless of the damage done to the country, or the targets.

The same fascist sickness is growing today.

This has nothing to do with guilt or innocence, the merits of finding commies or terrorists, and certainly nothing to do with security of the country -- it has to do with creating witch hunts from within an all-powerful central government, for those who gain political power by doing so.

The same could be said of certain leaders in Congress and the administration today that was said of McCarthy:

"Until this moment, senator, I think I never gauged your cruelty or recklessness....Have you no sense of decency, sir, at long last? Have you left no sense of decency?"

"Trifecta", indeed.
