but when you say "we have not done as you say, gap down and rally" I think you two are talking about different timeframes.

I think you are talking about the gap down having a rally and then that rally being eventually sold a day or a few days later. I think Freep, however, is talking about a day like 6/14 or yesterday where we gapped down significantly on the naz (whether "true" or not) and then rallied the rest of the day and held for that day at least or a few days, anyway.

Jeff -- bcrafty said better what I was saying. Also, when was the last gap down opening of any sort (even within the last day's range) that didn't at least get back to the prior close within a couple days? April?

That said, you'll get no argument from me that everything has been sold for some time. Gaps up, gaps down, flat openings. Heck, almost 400 points down on the ndx since mid may to yesterday's low. That's nasty.
