NEW YORK -- Successfully navigating the communications sector these days takes an iron gut and the good graces of Lady Luck - and she seems to have left for greener pastures.

But Robb Parlanti, a senior portfolio manager and communications specialist at Turner Investment Partners, says investors can find their way through the sector by focusing on "high quality names with good balance sheets."

Parlanti also said Turner believes Cisco Systems Inc. (CSCO) has downside protection because of its limited exposure to communications carriers.

"We view them as the ultimate survivor," he said. "They're a company that will figure it out."
