amusing...i remember having to learn the new version and having the teacher emphasize 'UNDER GOD' so the principal could stand outside and hear this undifferentiated rumble-mumble from his classrooms and then 'UNDER GOD' boom out in fullthroated adolescent excitement...

of course, it was just as controversial then, as now, but we don't have those 'godless rooskie commies' for contrast anymore either. that made all the difference.
