that you try that notion out on WCOM's creditors and see

WCOM Fraud:
A few things changed for the worse: The firm is liable for shareholder losses, if they have the ability to pay. The firm's balance sheet is adversely affected by the corrected account balances. The combined effect may be just enough to persuade their supporting bank consortium to let them twist in the wind by not renewing their credit line. Also, the unfavorable press may lead to massive client defections.
