But it is still open as to what the Palestenians will do in the face of any attempts by the US/Israel's attempt to influence the outcome of the election directly or otherwise. >>>>

I am not suggesting that Arafat can't win elections..All I suggest that he may win, that "graciously" step-down...And you are right Saudis will decide his "political fate"-I just submit to you that it has been decided-the rest is maneuvering/saving face...Win or Lose he is "done" politically...

Baghrouti, has been in and out of Israeli jails, speaks Hebrew, give me the break-He even thinks highely of Israeli Democracy...

Though I sure do not like that the Saudis and Egypt would dump Arafat like that.>>>

Well, lot of people in Russia (and Greece) did not like Russians dumping Milosevic either...What you do not know is what kind of documents and evidence was presented to Saudis on Arafat...not that they did not know or approve of his activities, but threatened with World Wide Revelations they had no choice but to let Arafat sink....What Arafat can do? He is not going to turn around and try to embarass Saudi Dynasty and Muslem "brothers"...so he got an offer that may make him furious, but that what happenes if you are on Payroll of sponsor..take your retirment in oblivion or martyrdom.
He is not the first or last "Revolutionary" to be dumped after outliving their usefullness...

Around 4,000 backers of the former president's Socialist Party gathered in Belgrade's central Republic Square and marched to the Serbian government headquarters, where some threw rocks, firecrackers and eggs at the building guarded by riot police.

The demonstrators then continued their protest. They chanted "Slobo! Slobo!" and waved pictures of other war crimes indictees such as ex-Bosnian Serb leader Radovan Karadzic and his military chief Ratko Mladic.
