Last week's program trading statistics were released by the NYSE after today's close and the percentage of program volume executed for member firms accounts rose slightly from the previous week to 34%.

UBS Warburg remained the firm most actively using program trading for their own accounts.

But the headline number is interesting, it is simply the percentage of NYSE volume that is attributable to program trades... normally comes in between 25 and 35%, but this past week the percentage shot up to 44.9%, the highest number on record....institutions were actively pushing
the program button last week...

What can we glean from that? Unfortunately, not much...<g>
