Joel:

Good for you.

While normally, I try to be polite and easy going, there is one circumstance that invariably causes the adrenalin and combative juices to flow and that is when investors give me that "my-financial-advisor-thinks-you're-looney" bit (and this after "the client" is down 50%). My response is to ask them to bring their financial advisor to lunch, but to warn them in advance that he/she had best know his/her stuff as he/she would not be attending a relaxed social occasion, but more a stint in the sawdust on the floor of the Roman Coliseum.

Initially in these meetings I endeavoured to be relatively polite, but after a while, I would just gut and bury them in disgust. Not as a result of my being any smarter, but more because they are so incredibly ignorant of what is going on.... especially with respect to the companies their (recommended) fund managers hold. Most are well-dressed, urbane, polished and well-spoken,..... and also completely ignorant of market behaviour, stock fundamentals, global political and economic activities, etc. I grew to despise most of them and currently view them as leeches on our investment society.

By the way, check out advisor-client relationships today. "Uh, what was your name again?...... Just a minute and I will check....... Uh, Mr. Advisor is unfortunately too busy to meet with you .....for, ...uh.... the next month or two.".

Sorry for the vent/rant, but misplaced arrogance really riles me.

Best, Earlie
