I objected to Laz's statement that the Government can not be in line with God.

I see. What you meant by "in line with" was "compatible with" or "in tune with" not necessarily "in league with" or "advocating." OK.

The problem here stems from the phrase "in line with", which is open to interpretation. It is also not particularly relevant to the question under discussion, which is a simple one: should the Government require a citizen to declare faith in a God even if that citizen does not believe in a God.

Whether or not adherence to any particular values is "in line with" God is purely a matter of perception, which makes it a difficult matter for discussion.
