Mephisto,

Re: the debt ceiling has been raised

Not yet. It is under consideration in Congress when they come back from the Indpendence Day holiday.

Currently, Mitch Daniels is dipping into the Social Security Trust Fund to keep the general fund topped up.

CORRECTION: DEBT LIMIT RAISED

Mephisto,

Somehow I missed the news on the debt ceiling. You were correct:

The House voted 215-214 to increase the current $5.95 trillion debt ceiling, the first federal borrowing increase Congress has granted in five years.

The Democratic-controlled Senate had approved the measure by a bipartisan 68-29 margin on June 11. Bush is certain to sign it.

An increase of $450 Billion.
