We can't say for sure that nothing was done after the Cole. A possibility with some likelihood is that some of the hacks on the Gore campaign figured the number of Florida crewmen killed, who would thus not be able to cast absentee ballots for Bush. If it was 10 or more, I have no doubt the champagne flowed at Gore headquarters, as well as the West Wing...
