That complicates things. Perhaps things will sort out more easily after the matter completes the judicial process.I believe its a stretch to think atheists are persecuted in the United States. I agree that atheists are not persecuted. They are, though, unceremoniously dissed and treated as alien. If it were possible to identify atheists easily, say by a "towel" on their heads, they would probably be severely persecuted. The majority does not like legislation by the judiciary. I don't think anyone does. It would be much better if we could find a societal consensus and obviate the intrusive role of the judiciary. We can't do that as long as everyone's first instinct is to fight. If the people who bring these "me against everyone else" suits really seek to not be singled out, they might stop painting targets on themselves. One individual atheist painted himself as a target by taking that shot, not atheists. Rather like a couple of dozen Muslims took a shot, not their religion. Your friendly local atheists have been denouncing his suit as divisive and ill timed. Some have even said it's no big deal, or at least not a big enough deal to press a suit. What we need is for the other side, the majority, to quit saying that it's not a big deal for us while also saying what a big deal it is for them. If it's not a big deal, it's not a big deal for both of us.I do not think we need an Atheist Appreciation Week Me neither. To repeat - political suicide. It should not be political suicide to be considerate of everyone.
