mish, the one thing I would argue with is that the central banks consider gold anything but a minor irritant. A mosquito while they are battling the imbalances from other crazy derivative markets. My guess is that the derivatives in bonds and energy dwarf the little gold shorts by multiples. I'm sure it's on their list, but something like this: 1. save the world from economic chaos. 2. Keep the house of sand called the equity markets from dragging us into a Depression. 3. Make certain that we don't get another crippling energy crunch. 4. Last guy out the door, give old gold a kick, too.
