I suppose a claim can be made that there is social pressure to conform.

Even given that, it's still not worth the cultural civil war this is likely to inspire, And the irony for that atheist poppa who filed this suit is that his side will ultimately lose and probably end up behind where they started.

I would agree with you but for the fact that many kids are very impressionable and other kids are mean. Perhaps if schools presented the pledge in such a way that kids had a real choice rather than a default and an opt-out. Or classes could write their own versions as part of a civics lesson.
