Augie I disagree.
Please reread my statement.
I said both sides of Naz committment decreased substantially. Now it is possible for the long side to decrease more thus making the "net affect" more short, but looking again I see that might be wrong as well.

cftc.gov

Actually I am glad you made me do a double take.
This is a monstrous decrease in both long and short contracts on the Naz. I had not looked at drop in minis before.

look at both the NQ minis as well as regular contracts.

Zeev, any thoughts here? Why the sudden "lack of interest" in the Naz, both directions. The net affect might be more short (someone do the math please, noting the difference between minis and regulars), but the overall drop is what gets me floored.

Augieboo,
Could be wrong butI think, Commercials are hedgers of the large and small speculators positions. If you check you will find that the Commercial net position = Large Speculator net position + Small Speculator net position.
If you want more, there are a number of sites that analyze the numbers.
Use Google and search for Cot Report Analysis (or some variation). One analyst last name Breise or Briese has devoted a lot of years to the study. It's not always clear what the numbers mean as regards forecasting the market direction!
