I was just playing with a different concept of criminal justice, like they do in Sci Fi stories.
I can dig that. We'll perfect brainwipe technology, clean out their minds, install one that doesn't do nasty things, and start them over. How's that?

one murder or two murders.
One we might consider an unfortunate accident and let the perp off with 25 years.
Two we off them.

I was just 1)amusing my brain by examining something outside the box and 2)trying to get a better idea of what goes on inside the heads of those who, unlike me, are heavy into retribution.
What we're heavy into is convincing people that might consider killing us or our fellow citizens that's it's a really bad idea.
