"I disagree... values are the guard rails of our society, this decision is surely being applauded by the Al-Qaeda... on this coming September 11th, we won't be able to recite the Pledge in public... doesn't that disturb you? This decision works to derail further and eats away at the moral fiber of our society... so is it any wonder why people are flocking away from the public school system in favor of vouchers for a private school education....."
The historical background for the insertion of the words "under God" in the Pledge is best understood by looking at the decision itself and not the individual remarks made in other contexts by the plaintiff. Those conditions were McCarthyism and anti-communism (atheism).
These conditions have been replaced by anti Al-Qaedaism, justified as this anti Al-Qaedaism is it does not justify a reduction of the values of the American society.
I won't comment on the anti-freedom idea that all middle easterners should be finger printed(OK, I commented on it).
I don't think that the Al-Qaeda are applauding the decision, they are most likely more worried than ever because there is a voice in America that calls for a return to basic values, the values that protect everyone in America in their religious beliefs.
Read the decision, it explains this better than I can.
