Children still do all of those things and they probably always will, although fewer may be running around calling people "fags" because they have an uncle who is gay and they know it.

There are also some children that won't be running around calling people "fags" - or beating up the people they call fags - because their parents have made it very clear that this type of behaviour is totally unacceptable and cause for severe punishment. Mine, for example. Hopefully some others as well.

As for the Pledge, I grew up in one of the most infamously conservative counties in the nation, and there were children who would not say the Pledge of Allegiance. I can't remember anyone making an issue of it (unless someone was disruptive).

I don't remember anyone ever refusing to say it, or even questioning it. It was just something we did.
