Yes, I used to be a fair pianist, although I stopped lessons too late to become highly proficient. I have not played regularly in quite awhile. He is interested in guitar and keyboard, mainly for rock and roll. He is a little tired of the sort of choral music they do in high school, and has been a guest singer with some bands a couple of times, though he had nothing regular. I figure that he mainly wants to accompany himself, and that learning the guitar is the priority, since he only needs chords, and can carry the thing around easily.
