That is reality on ground. Like Israelis our nation is now a target of suicide bombing and the way we are combing the north where even Brits could not go is a historical first, it is an undeclared open war with the fanatics. No one takes war for sake of anyone else with its own people and that is what is happening right now with little or least of appreciation. I think appreciation is far cry I would be happy that all of this is good for ourselves and eradication of extremism will help us to once again join the nations of civilised community, I look at it as a war against medievalism and harder we fight the better we are. The pride when i compare Pakistan with the 53 Islamic nations is that the ideological yoke that create those conditions where line of reason gets blurred has not stopped them as a nation to pursue policy of curtailment. I see a need of action in other Islamic countries too but they rarely ever move. I don't think 'war of terror' is limited to Pakistan and Afghanistan only, other nations who produce these deranged people in ample quantity get away due to their importance of oil and of course their non-democratic structure where state does not allow dissent of nay kind. Saudis, Egyptians and UAE have huge fundamentalist following but invisible crack down they cannot do what Pakistanis can do for one reason they do not have the feel of the nation they are afraid to take on the extremists as they have never tested how much of their body politics is infested with the vermin’s. One can argue that lack of democracy is creating islands of instability within Middle East however there is another facet to this argument.. there is no need of more democracy within Islamic societies I argue.. I do subscribe to the thought sometime that quasi democracy in comparison to totalitarianism within mostly Arab Islamic world is one reason that militant terrorism is so organised within Pakistan. Organised terror on private scale is very subdued in Saudi Arabia and Iraq or Libya. For one reason the state will not allow dissent of any kind, the state itself will take care of terror activity, I believe that the quasi democracy of Pakistan helps nourish extremist organisations as a part of political set ups, the papers are full of condemnation or appreciation of Government policy, the dictators have since last few years never interfered with Islamic organisation since these are helpful in what is termed as war of independence of Kashmir. The duality of motive does exist but underlying reason for their evergreen nourishment is antiquated Islamic ideology coupled with helpful ground conditions and freedom to operate. Tax havens create anomalies in business world so does ‘terrorist havens’ of different kind within civilised world. May be a benevolent dictator or open-minded dictator is better than democrat who may ultimately becomes a puppet in the hand of the extremists. The prevalent ideology that promotes extremism and demands of democracy are twain that shall never meet within present societies from Morocco to Brunei. From Palestine to Kashmir to every trouble spot this phenomenon is rampant. Asking Arafat for elections may bloody well throw up 'Hammas.' Sometime evil you know is better than evil you don't. Unfortunately, extremism and democracy are non-co related that is a fact. The later cannot survive, from Hitler to present day the 'extremists' will always use democracy to trample rights on massive scale. May be strong-arm dictatorships where state listens to everything would be the right answer within some medieval societies I sounds horrifically inhuman but very factual. Democracy survives only when basic human respect of ‘life’ and ‘live and let others live’ is practised when this dictum is trampled freedom and rights ensured under democratic charter helps create ideal conditions in such lands to promote terror. To take on fanatics, is huge task, they exist all around and composition of the 11th Sept attackers would reveal that they did come from other richer sanctuaries where no action is being taken, perhaps we as nation have suffered more and may have erred more to create these people with the help of international community as a balancing force to communist invasion. now they are on the run Million of words of doubt and caution have appeared, from implosion of Pakistan to removal and coup within the Army, talk of cells within ISI and insincerity of the resolve of the Pakistanis in this war that has brought a huge segment of militants looking into the eyes of the nation at large. These militants number 1 enemy is Pakistani moderate forces. I have forecasted events since 11th, Sept not with emotions but with history behind me. I know that Orakzai's and Saeed Khan the Corp Commander Peshawar and GOC Kohat are man of reason and highest integrity. They know word of honour, they will get the AlQaeda flush out form this region whatever is the price. To take an enemy within is not a small task, for the safety of future it is a small fringe struggle going on with best of purpose, I just want you to see it what was being written from 11th Sept, you as a balance person will realize that instead of revolting against Musharraf the foot soldiers of the Army are fighting this one against their own country man, that may not understand much reason but they will not revolt neither they will abscond they will get the enemy within. That is what I said from day one that is what the intelligentsia thought was not conventional wisdom the implosion that never happened the double play that never was. .
