I am not saying anything against a concern about over- reaching. The term "alarmist" has a particular meaning, more or less associated with Chicken Little. Nor am I against ideas merely because they are libertarian.

If the country falls apart, or is occupied, the Constitution will not prevail, either. Better to meet emergencies head on, with the idea of returning to normal, than to let matters erode.

I am talking about a general attitude towards the police, not endorsing abuses.

The country is about many things. The Constitution specifically says: forming a more perfect union, establishing justice, ensuring domestic tranquillity, providing for the common defense, promoting the general welfare, and securing the blessings of liberty to ourselves and our posterity. Individual rights presumably are incorporated under "establishing justice" and "securing the blessings of liberty", but they are balanced against several other things........
