Hi Kirk; I am also heavy into AMAT and LRCX. What do you think of LU at this level? After the WCOM news, I recently bought a fairly good sized chunk. My reasoning:

In the May 2002 of Technology Review, it breaks out the number of patents by company by industry. For 2001, in the Telecomunications segment, LU has 1633 patents. Motorola is next with 829. They also finish #1 in technological strength with a point total of 2531; second place with 1369 is Ericson.
They own the prestigious Bell Labs.

I think the WCOM financial problems will actually benefit the shareholders of LU. Accounting games and all the negative publicity surrounding them are less likely to occur in a company like LU. I think we will see a 'close to the vest' conservative approach going forward.

Lucent is priced now almost as if it's on the brink of bankruptcy. I don't think it will be going out of business.

My only fear is that of a reverse stock split. I know A T & T mentioned that a month ago and I am not sure where that stands.
