They have to win over the moderate Muslims first. Right now the moderates are relatively quiet and the fundamentalists (Wahabs) are trying to get the upper hand. The cracks in the Muslim world has already started. If reports of Saudis wanting to dump Arafat is true then that is the first one. If reports coming from Pakistan today that they have sent out a public alert to arrest Osama and his men if they are in Pakistan, is true then is the other crack we are starting to see. And the non-Muslim world that you yourself have referred to will have a role to play but it will be a benign (behind the scenes) role such as providing security cover and intelligence to people like President Musharraf of Pakistan, working with India along with the Israelis to ensure that Al Qaeda does not cross into India, protecting the Saudi royal family etc. etc.
