It has given many soccer fans an opportunity to share their experiences, hopes, frustrations, thoughts, memories from youth etc., concerning soccer and sometimes beyond. Surely, I will look at the thread occasionally as the qualification games of the European Championship 2004 start this Fall. Soccer has been the "vehicle" for cultural exchanges here and while playing in person. The occasional stereotyping and pre judgements, when not meant in obvious fun, were likely from inexperience. (Hollywood doesn't always present the correct picture.) For the most part the participants on this thread have tried to be civil and mostly respectful of others' opinions, even when their opinions differ. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- In response to the last message.........After many MRI's and Xrays, I was to have knee surgery over two years ago. Orthopedic shoe inserts and constant exercise have helped tremendously and I am, so far glad that I opted not to have surgery. I'm still playing soccer. Who knows the side effect from the surgery. Spent another 3 hours of soccer today with many of the kids from yesterday........even with the 95 degrees heat they didn't want leave after having been inspired this morning watching the WC. That's Great! ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- RE: "After living such camaraderie and friendship, indeed the whole experience allows me to say that I simply cannot buy the bs politicians........." Agree again..........Today, these 12 year children, from parents of the different nationalities, did not have these ingrained prejudices that insecure adults have. They have not been exposed to the political brainwashing that happens in so many countries. It's just another team mate from whom they can learn something interesting and with whom they can have fun. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Being half Chinese and half German I asked my kids which team they would support if China and Germany met in the WC........... Answer: Germany......."because dad let's us stay up longer at night." Loki
