That is why I tend to avoid big caps, apart from the fact that most are too expensive and lack the profits to justify their valuations.

Between WCOM and penny stock scams, there is a universe of quality mid caps and small caps with compelling values and sound management. They may not be sexy and they may not make the headlines, but many have long track records for good performance.

Maybe it's the KISS principle - companies with simpler operations and simpler accounts are easier to understand and - apparently - less likely to cook the books outside the tech arena.

I know a broker who blew 2/3 of a client's account in TYC calls earlier this year because he believed one side of the argument. He doesn't manage client funds any longer.
