Dak, Well, I do believe in a flag as a battle standard. Especially in earlier days, it helped soldiers who got lost from their units to find their way back to the lines. And it also signalled where the last stand would be made. And, when the enemy's flag came down and yours went up, it was usually a good sign. Though in some Civil War battles, the flags went back and forth several times in a few days.
