OT --love those free search engines ... only one relating to the pledge -- just says if you make an oath, do it -- all the rest has to do with -- collateral. The disturbing thing here is -- psuhing someone else to pledge anything that they don't believe or intend to do. I think the pledge was a bad idea in the first place -- nothing wrong with reciting things, but the pledge wasn't a good idea, IMO, from the start. [Exod 22:23.9] If ever you take your neighbor's garment in pledge, you shall restore it to him before the sun goes down [Num 30:2.19] When a man vows a vow to the LORD, or swears an oath to bind himself by a pledge, he shall not break his word; he shall do according to all that proceeds out of his mouth. Num 30:5.22] But if her father expresses disapproval to her on the day that he hears of it, no vow of hers, no pledge by which she has bound herself, shall stand; and the LORD will forgive her, because her father opposed her.
